Ballet – A graceful and poised form of dance that is the foundational technique for all other dance techniques. It is a formal dance that mixes technique, coordination and musicality. Barre work, along with center and across the floor combinations are executed.
Pointe – A class that is only open to dancers who have mastered the proper level of ballet and have been approved by Miss Lauren. Readiness for pointe work is determined by each student’s strength and physical development, not by age. Parents will be advised when a student has the necessary strength and maturity to go on pointe. Dancers will need pointe shoes which is a ballet shoe with a hard, full soled shank, allowing the dancer to go on a full pointe while in releve. An additional Ballet Class is mandatory to be enrolled in a Pointe Class.
Gymnastics – A performance of exercises that involves physical strength, flexibility, coordination, balance and agility. Some exercises depending on the level of the gymnast include: Forward and Backward Rolls, Backbends, Cartwheels, Walkovers and Limbers.
Toddler Tumble – A combination of creative movement and basic tumbling. Basic motor skills are incorporated through creative themes and imagination to improve coordination with a ballet concentration. Conditioning and tumbling skills such as jumping jacks, forward rolls, cartwheels and crabwalks among others are taught to increase overall body strength.
Wee Move – A fun combination of movement and song to help basic motor skills. Some tumbling will be taught and the use of props will be used to keep the student engaged. Also, this class will create a special bond with your child through movement. Parent’s attendance is mandatory for this class.
Bop and Hop/Wee Bop – A combination of Hip Hop and Gymnastics. Hip Hop is a form of Jazz Dance. Basic Jazz steps will be taught and then will transition to the style of hip hop. Gymnastic skills such as somersaults, cartwheels and handstands along with conditioning and strengthening moves will be mastered.
Jazz – A form of dance that is energetic and fun. It consists of steps including; jazz square, chasse, and pas de bourre. And also includes big leaps and quick turns. A background in ballet is highly recommended for this form of dance. Although ballet is based on turnout, jazz dance is often done from parallel.
Jazz Hop – A fusion of Jazz and Hip Hop. Basic jazz steps will be taught and then a “Hip Hop” flare will be added to the steps. Hip Hop is a stylized form of jazz.
Hip Hop – A form of Jazz Dance that is very energetic and allows the dancer to add their own personality or style. It is danced to popular pop and hip hop music.
Tap – A dance that creates rhythms by using the toe and heel tap of the shoe. It has come from the traditional Irish Step Dance and the black slave dances. It is a percussive dance where the dancer is able to create the music.
Lyrical – A fusion of jazz, ballet and modern techniques to create one. It has an emphasis on smoother and flowing movements expressed to lyrics of a song. It is subtle and dynamic at the same time and uses musicality and expression to tell a story. Dancers must be enrolled in a ballet class.
Modern – There are many techniques of Modern Dance such as Limon, Graham, Horton and Humphrey. Modern Dance was created as a rebellion against Classical Ballet Technique. These techniques are the names of some of the early modern creators. The technique that will be taught is the Horton Technique based on Lester Horton. Modern dance is based on self-expression and is more relaxed and free style form of dance compared to the ballet technique. The Horton Technique combines Native American Folk Dance, Japanese arm gestures, Balinese isolations for the upper body, and Afro-Caribbean elements including hip circles. It includes flexibility, strength, coordination and body and spatial awareness to allow dramatic expression. Dancers must have prior Ballet experience.
Musical Theater - A combination of dance, acting and some singing. This class will consist of exercises to boost acting knowledge and morale. And will include musical theater songs with choreography from musicals.
Mommy & Me – Join us for a fun class full of songs, dance and games with you and your little one. Class will be in 4 week sessions only: November Session - 1st, 8th, 15th and 22nd January Session - 3rd, 10th, 17th and 24th March Session - 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th May Session - 2nd, 9th, 16th and 23rd
